Your time in Kenya should be magical; making memories and stepping away from the everyday humdrum of life admin.
I believe that a visit to Kenya should be about creating unforgettable experiences and lifelong memories. That's why I offer a wide range of services that cater to different ages and needs.
Whether you're looking for a suggestion for a weekend activity, managing your initial arrival, or easing your child into the first few days in a new school, I've got you covered.
Navigating a new country can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be.
At Ask Alice, I handle all the details so my clients can relax and enjoy the adventure.
I also offer 'guardianship' support and assistance to my clients to give them peace of mind knowing that I am always here to help whilst in Kenya.
Gap Year students may feel like adults, but it is reassuring for parents back at home to know that there is a support system in place, should it be required.
I have lived and worked in Kenya since 2009, having moved here from UK.
I arrived to set up a new office and therefore had to navigate everything myself with no assistance. Looking back, although this was enormously daunting, it did create a 'sink or swim' situation and forced me to create a much tried and tested Little Black Book on Kenya.
I have noticed over the past 15 years that many people come to me for advice and support when they are new to Kenya. This triggered the idea that there is a need for some more structured support.
During my time in Kenya I have worked as a diplomat, operated within the United Nations, worked at Pembroke House School, worked within the high-end travel industry and set up a virtual PA business.
I have lived in Nairobi and upcountry and have built up quite a considerable amount of useful information and a wide range of friends and colleagues.
I love sharing my knowledge and experiences to smooth the path for those who arrive in this incredible country, so they can hit the ground running!
"Alice was an absolute super star and essential to our move to Kenya. She helped us to navigate finding a property, setting up sims and Mpesa, school uniforms and travel.
Once on the ground she then directed us towards where to do our grocery shopping, local deliveries, veg baskets, finding a BBQ, tips on driving in Kenya and even buying specific ingredients like pine nuts!!!
What she doesn’t know about Kenya isn’t worth knowing!!! I would highly recommend her to any family or person wishing to relocate over here."

"Our son has just started the term at Pembroke House School in Gilgil, and we have been hugely helped by the amazing Alice Murphy. Coming from the UK and having never set foot in the school or Gilgil, it was a huge culture shock. However the incredibly organised and knowledgeable Alice has been here for all practical and emotional support- sorting out our phone accounts, linking the complicated payment system (M-pesa) to our UK source of funds, arranging accommodation, cars, drivers, taxis, food, restaurants, local knowledge/excursions, immigration assistance, Kenya entry visas, postage stamps, name tapes, you name it! She is also on hand for my son when I go back to England. Anything we need - we just Ask Alice!"

"Landing in a foreign country can be very daunting. Alice was able to answer all our questions and help us with so many things - from getting set up on mobile money m-pesa, to a Kenyan SIM card, accommodation, taxis, safe drivers, which petrol stations to use, restaurants, trips and even finding us stamps for the UK. Alice’s help was invaluable and our trip wouldn’t have been the same without her. One of the most reassuring things for me is that she acted as Kenyan guardian to my son, whilst I returned to the UK for a few weeks. To have someone so capable and caring on hand - should the need have arisen - was a huge comfort to both me and my son. She is incredibly efficient and I couldn't recommend her more highly "

Ask Alice was fortuitously forwarded on to me by a friend who knew I was attempting to move myself and two small boys to Kenya for a term at Pembroke House School in Gilgil. I reached out to Alice and we had an initial call and decided on the level of support that she thought I needed. It was an easy decision to move forward with Alice as we had an immediate connection, and clearly she knew what she was talking about! Within hours (and I mean hours) of talking to her, the Alice wheels were whirling and name tapes had been ordered, a kit list sent, houses and accommodation suggestions were flooding my inbox. If there was a question I had, and there were many, they were answered in a straightforward and simple way, immediately. I thought that I was organised but Alice is a different level. And thank goodness, as it turns out I had woefully underestimated what I was trying to do and really had no idea about anything!
Alice met us when we arrived in Gilgil and immediately I was glad she was there, with food for the weekend and a friendly smile. She went above and beyond to show us around and made sure we were settled for our first night. A school tour the next day (turns out Alice ran the boys boarding house for a couple of years so knows EVERYTHING you need to know), uniform was conjured out of thin air, personalised water bottles, towel, duvets, sleeping bags. She had thought of everything, down to ordering me stamps for the weekly letter writing, Amref Flying Doctor insurance, money, telephones the list goes on and on!
Fast forward a couple of weeks and we are finding our feet here largely down to her care and attention- there is nothing she won't help with and never makes me feel stupid for asking any question, however silly. I have to fly back to the UK for the weekend and I am leaving her In Loci Parentis of the two boys whilst I am away for 3 days- the answer, “of course” and then a list of questions asking about dates that I am away and what she can do for them. I am sure that Alice whirls away in the background and half of what she has done for me and the boys I will never know about- but what I do know is that without her I would have felt truly out of my depth; with her in my corner the stress of moving continents and into a very different environment has been largely taken away so that we can just enjoy being here.
She is a five star recommendation, in fact I would go as far as saying do not attempt this without her- it is the best and most important money I have spent.
